Should Makeup Be Allowed In Schools?

Makeup. Such a controversial topic, especially in UK schools. We've all heard excuses as to why we are not allowed makeup but are the reasons really valid? I do firstly want to mention that I don't think boundaries with the type and how much makeup you can wear is a problem but to ban it all seems so unfair to me. Also I would like to say that I'm sorry that the quote at the beginning refers to on woman it was the quote I loved and I think that we can apply it to everyone.

I think one of the main 'cons' to the allowance of makeup in schools is it being labelled as a distraction, we spend to much time applying it in the morning and then we're late. Or maybe we've touched it up in the bathroom and have missed registration, or even that the makeup will cause boys to act inappropriately, as ridiculous and stereotypical as it sounds this is what's being said. I personally think that what's more of a distraction is not putting your hand up for fear of people focusing on you and noticing how little sleep you got or spending more time fretting about people seeing your acne than concentrating on what the teacher is saying. Those are the distractions, of course we shouldn't have to worry about these small vain things but the nature of society makes it so and that's a problem that lies much deeper.

In this paragraph I'm going to refer to the students as 'girls', not that I'm saying that boys can't wear makeup or that it doesn't concern them but as a majority this problem mostly concerns girls (rightly or wrongly is beside the point). So girls are often told "you're growing up too fast" or "your to young to wear lipstick', unfortunately the people who make these decisions in schools are often much older and grew up in a time when it was seen as wrong to wear makeup in your secondary school life. But for centuries, elder people have hated change and its been the same story hundreds of time, you just have to let society flow. You can't stop the future only slow it down and whats the point of making millions of girls insecure for just a few years?

Personally I think the bullying aspect is a much more valid reason for not allowing makeup in schools,  people fear that if the use of makeup is allowed then  students will feel pressured to wear it and even be bullied for not using it. I can see the issue with this but surely that's a problem that needs to be dealt with at the roots, because that's not about makeup it's about a schools natural hierarchy. To me it seems almost like an excuse for a much deeper issue that needs tackling. Also students will wear makeup anyway and ignore the rule so the problem is still going to be a problem whetther its in the rules or not. If students are given the correct education about self care but also about relationships with other students then the problem would be much less relevant. I know  its easier said than done but it is something that governing bodies should be looking into properly.

In this paragraph I thought I'd share why makeup is so important to me, for me its about readying myself for the day. Its really nothing to do with the makeup itself but about the process of feeling so confident that it feels like I can completely boss the day. Whats so wrong with that? It truly does help me be as productive as I possibly can be, students in secondary schools are so pressured to be responsible and pretty much act like adults but then its all taken away by rules and regulations. You can't expect us to be mature in half of our lives and just take it away with rest, its just unfair.

Unfortunately there is so much that I couldn't say because firstly you'd probably all fall asleep and secondly I'm really hungry and ready for breakfast! Please comment your opinions! I hope you enjoyed xxx
