Staying Grounded

Today I want to discuss a little bit about how I stay grounded and maybe touch on spiritually a little bit. I might make a separate post all about my relationship with religion and what I believe in but I really don't want to offend anyone with my slightly atheist views, so key word: might! I am most definitely an over thinker and life isn't always that kind to me so staying grounded and connected to my spirituality is important to me.

As I just touched on, I'm not in anyway way religious and don't believe in a god however I do believe that the earth, nature and astrology as well as human connection have a massive impact on our lives. Again perhaps another blog post later on where I might properly explain that. But for now I'm just going to tell you about a few things that I do that keep me in touch with my spirituality, keep me grounded and have a more sane outlook on life.

For me, the mornings are a way to set the tone for the day and I like to asses my mood and have a while in the mornings to just spend some time just on me. If I wake up and hit the ground running it leaves me living my life on auto pilot, it just feels as if I am going through the same motions every day without thinking and experiencing life. I know it sounds cheesy but bear with me! I try and fill my mornings with things I enjoy and make things I have to do enjoyable, I am a firm believer in you put in what you get out and I need to be in my best mindset to be motivated to put in what I want to get out (does that make sense?), I have big dreams for my future and I try and see each day as a way of working towards them instead of wishing them away.

My alarm goes off at 6:50 in the morning and I spend fifteen minutes or so assessing my mood, setting goals and thinking about what the day might hold. I usually either read, journal or I’ve been getting into tarot cards all before I actually have to get going. I’m not going to lie there are definitely days where I hit snooze two or three times or just sit on my phone but these are the goals! I don’t know about you but when I eat healthy it makes me feel like one of those Instagram fitness gurus and I feel so motivated for the day, so I try and make my breakfast the night before and leave it in the fridge so I don’t end up just eating cereal every morning (that said I do often end up with cereal!). Normally I will have natural yogurt, oats and fruit or cereal sprinkled with seeds and dried fruits (which I tell myself make it healthier), a couple of times a week I might have home made berry porridge or apple and whole foods peanut butter.

I also like to keep updated on current affairs and whats going on in the world, I like to think that I am culturally aware and not naive! So I watch the news while eating and head upstairs. With or without a cup of tea depending on the day I potter through the rest of my getting ready while listening to music. Again I use this time to ponder on my day and just mentally prepare myself for the day. And that's my morning, I think its a really important part of the day that can really better your mental health. Oh and btw on the weekends this all goes at the window, no one is getting me up before 10!

Other things that I do just generally include working on my bullet journal (which I know is technically organisation stuff but its therapeutic) and I'm also really into astrology. Its a learning process for me so again another post on that after I've fully done my research on it. I spend a lot of my time thinking when I can do this or when I'm this age and so on but its something that I'm really trying to change. I just want to stay grounded and make each day count, cringey I know, its true that I can't wait to explore more of the world and things like that but I can make my life just as good in the mean times. My connection with nature keeps me sane, doing more of what I enjoy keeps me happy. Until next time! xx
