Staying Grounded

Image
Today I want to discuss a little bit about how I stay grounded and maybe touch on spiritually a little bit. I might make a separate post all about my relationship with religion and what I believe in but I really don't want to offend anyone with my slightly atheist views, so key word: might! I am most definitely an over thinker and life isn't always that kind to me so staying grounded and connected to my spirituality is important to me. As I just touched on, I'm not in anyway way religious and don't believe in a god however I do believe that the earth, nature and astrology as well as human connection have a massive impact on our lives. Again perhaps another blog post later on where I might properly explain that. But for now I'm just going to tell you about a few things that I do that keep me in touch with my spirituality, keep me grounded and have a more sane outlook on life.  For me, the mornings are a way to set the tone for the day and I like to asses my...

My Skin Care Routine

Image
As you may know, I'm fourteen and sadly this is the prime time for my skin to hate me. In all seriousness my skin isn't that bad, I breakout on my chin and get scarring and my forehead isn't always clear but with a little bit of makeup on you wouldn't be able to tell. Even as someone who is fairly lucky, I know what its like to feel insecure about my skin. At its worst, it made me feel totally isolated, which is so stupid as so many people suffer from this and its not a unique issue but that's the way it is. Taking a little bit of extra time on my skin care routine and working to find whats best for me not only boosted my confidence but actually cleared up my skin a little. Lets start with the fact that every ones skin is different and my routine won't work for everyone but it is worth taking aspects of it and trying them out. Logic lecture over, I've learnt that simplicity is the key; overly complex routines may just confuse your skin as at the end of the d...

Hats Off To The French

Image
I don't normally keep up with French politics (maybe I should) but something extremely exciting came to my attention a couple of weeks ago; France recently passed a law stating that the media industry  can't publish a retouched photo without labelling it with a big red sign that says "This picture is fake an a completely unrealistic standard of beauty!!", I'm just kidding what it actually has to say is simply "retouched". They have also said that doctors must check models weight and health before they enter the modelling industry. C'est très excitant! It is a tiny step towards realism in this industry and what needs to happen now is America, who has a very large impact on the beauty industry, needs to pass a similar law, unfortunately I feel this would be extremely unlikely given how little their president seems to care for anyone, especially women. Give teachers guns, fantastic idea introduce more violence and stress to teenagers lives, sorry I...

Feeling Good Is Priceless

Image
Today I wanted to talk about something that affects absolutely everything and that's feeling good in yourself. If you can nail this most days then, as a general rule, life is going to be better on the daily. We can't control a lot of the stuff that goes on in our lives but we can brighten our days with fresh flowers, productivity or a little bit of makeup. Most of us  have beasts behind closed doors who haunt us day in day out, I'm not saying it solves those things but I truly believe that I can water it down with pure confidence. When I take time in my appearance, mental health, improving my environment etc it acts as a form of self care and has a knock on affect of me acing my day. We all have days where we just can't be asked and my tip is accept those days and really push to just feel good on the days where its possible. A few things that I make sure I'm always doing to help me boost my feel good factor include wearing makeup, fake tanning and having painte...

Should Makeup Be Allowed In Schools?

Image
Makeup. Such a controversial topic, especially in UK schools. We've all heard excuses as to why we are not allowed makeup but are the reasons really valid? I do firstly want to mention that I don't think boundaries with the type and how much makeup you can wear is a problem but to ban it all seems so unfair to me. Also I would like to say that I'm sorry that the quote at the beginning refers to on woman it was the quote I loved and I think that we can apply it to everyone. I think one of the main 'cons' to the allowance of makeup in schools is it being labelled as a distraction, we spend to much time applying it in the morning and then we're late. Or maybe we've touched it up in the bathroom and have missed registration, or even that the makeup will cause boys to act inappropriately, as ridiculous and stereotypical as it sounds this is what's being said. I personally think that what's more of a distraction is not putting your hand up for fear of p...

A Guide to Organisation for Unorganised People

Image
I'll start by saying that organisation doesn't come naturally to me, in fact as I'm sitting at my desk right now I am surrounded by a whirlwind of papers, highlighters, inspirational quotes and literal chaos. But its organised chaos and I love it. The mess of it makes me feel productive and that's such a great feeling! However I'm constantly surrounded by people who are VERY organised and there is absolutely no room for leeway and the mess isn't always reliable so I have other systems in place that really help me to at least pretend that I know what the hell I'm doing. I have three main aspects that I will split into paragraphs so that maybe I can help any like minded people. You can find examples below the text to fully understand. Also I know my desk isn't tumblr city but its functional okay? Firstly lets establish that simplicity is most definitely the key, I love to organise stuff and make it look pretty and beautiful but it never works out i...

Body Positivity In Social Media

Image
Today I want to share my thoughts on body positivity, specifically its  activeness in social media. I'm feeling very productive while writings this as, shock and horror, I'm actually sat at my desk! Anyway I just want to start off with what I'm not going to talk about, I'm planning to write a whole other post about why I don't think social media is  as bad as everyone says it is so I'm literally only going to talk  about one of the 'glass half full' aspects of social media: the body positivity movement.  Firstly lets discuss what body positivity means to me; in my opinion, as long as your completely healthy then who gives one about what size you are. If you eat well, exercise regularly and don't have any lifestyle induced health issues then it does not matter how many stretch marks you have! I'm not saying its okay to be fat, as research shows that being overweight has definite negative side affects, but I am saying that as a society our idea ...
